HUSSIEN AL-BATTAINEH, PH.D., P.ENG., CVS® - PRESIDENT
Dr. Hussien Al-Battaineh is an expert in infrastructure management, value analysis, risk analysis, and project management for civil engineering applications. He has been recognized for his work in these areas through a number of awards and scholarships including the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering’s Award for Governmental Leadership in Sustainable Infrastructure (2012) and the Consulting Engineers of Alberta Award of Excellence and Award of Merit (2013) for the Risk-based Infrastructure Management System (RIMS); the Joseph D. Thompson/Zurich Canada Graduate Award, (2005); the Award of Excellency, Annual Conference of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering, Toronto (2005); the Province of Alberta Graduate Fellowship (2004); the NASTT North West Chapter, Graduate Student Scholarship (2004).
Dr. Al-Battaineh holds the Certified Value Specialist (CVS®) designation, which is the highest level of certification obtainable through SAVE International. He also holds the positions of Adjunct Professor of Civil and Construction Engineering at Western Michigan University, and Vice President/President Elect of the SAVE International®.
BYRON K. NICHOLSON, M.ENG. - SENIOR ADVISOR
Mr. Nicholson is an experienced and respected engineer and industrial leader, having spent his 32-year career in both the public and private sectors delivering high-quality infrastructure projects. Before joining EHan, Mr. Nicholson served as Director at the City of Edmonton and EPCOR, and oversaw dozens of large-scale transportation and drainage projects. Mr. Nicholson will be adding his leadership and valuable perspective to Value Engineering, Risk Analysis, Constructability and Operability Review, and other processes that EHan leads for various infrastructure projects.
PAUL D. SPECHT, CD, CAMP, CAMA - SENIOR ADVISOR
Mr. Specht has been a senior manager of physical plant services with a proven track record for more than 35 years of progressive facility management in all aspects of traditional physical plant activities. He is experienced in asset management strategy development, capital and deferred maintenance planning, contract management, maximizing the capabilities of the computerized maintenance management systems, energy management systems, and emergency event management. Before joining EHan, Mr. Specht spent his varied career in roles with the City of Edmonton, the University of Guelph, the University of Western Ontario, and the Canadian Armed Forces.
JOHN CAIRNS, B.A.Sc. - SENIOR DRAINAGE ADVISOR
Mr. Cairns earned his degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Waterloo in 1979. His time with the City of Edmonton stretched from 1982 until 2017. He rose to the position of Program Manager, a role in which Mr. Cairns’ responsibilities included completing the design, development and delivery of drainage utility capital works projects and the development of sustainable planning and renewal of drainage infrastructure, among many others. Mr. Cairns is excited to add his deep firsthand knowledge of the field to our team to significantly benefit our projects and our clients.
FANGYI ZHOU, M.SC., P.ENG., PMP - SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER
Ms. Zhou is a quality-oriented professional with solid training and diverse experience in project management, project control, range estimating, productivity and process improvement, construction simulation, and related experience in major drainage and transportation projects. Ms. Zhou is keen in implementing cutting-edge project control and management tools and developing innovative solutions for clients to increase efficiency and minimize resource waste.
